Custom trailers we build
Every custom trailer starts from what you need to carry. These are the main types we build, with the price of the closest standard model as a starting point.
Utility and luggage trailers
Longer beds, higher sides or mesh sides for moving house, garden refuse and camping gear.
Flat deck and plant trailers
Low decks and drop sides for pallets, compact machines and equipment.
Car and bike trailers
Deck lengths sized to the vehicle, quads or motorbikes you carry.
Livestock trailers
Braked trailers built to the side height and length your animals need.
Closed trailers
Lockable, weather protected bodies for tools, stock and luggage.
Business and work trailers
Trailers for contractors, farms and delivery work, matched to your vehicle and daily load.
Quoted per build
Options you can specify
A custom build lets you choose the details that a standard trailer fixes for you.
Size and side height
Choose the inside length, width and side height, with open sides, mesh or a fully closed body. Our standard trailers range from a 1.8 x 1.2 m bed to a 5 x 2 m car deck, and custom builds are not limited to those sizes.
Axles, brakes and GVM
We match the number of axles, the brakes and the gross vehicle mass (GVM) to your heaviest load and your licence code. Any trailer with a GVM above 750 kg is built with brakes.
Ramps, drop sides and tie downs
Add loading ramps for bikes, plant and vehicles, drop sides for loading from the side, and tie down points wherever your load needs securing.
Tool boxes, racks and spare wheel mounts
Fit lockable tool boxes, ladder or pipe racks, a canopy or a spare wheel mount as part of the build rather than as an afterthought.
How a custom trailer build works
Send your brief
Tell us what you carry, its heaviest weight, the size you need, your towing vehicle and your licence code. A sketch or photo helps.
Approve your quote
We quote on your specification and confirm the GVM, axles and brakes with you before anything is built.
We build your trailer
Your custom trailer is built and delivered in about 3 weeks.
Register and license it
Take the manufacturer's certificate, your ID and proof of address to your licensing department within 21 days.
Built to be road legal
A custom trailer is only useful if you can legally tow and register it. We design around three rules.
Brakes on trailers over 750 kg
Any trailer with a GVM above 750 kg must be braked. An unbraked trailer, fully loaded, may not weigh more than half the tare of the vehicle towing it.
Matched to your licence code
A Code B licence covers trailers with a GVM of up to 750 kg. Above that the driver needs a Code EB licence, so we confirm your licence before we set the GVM.
Ready to register
New trailers are registered with a manufacturer's certificate. Take it, your ID and proof of address to your licensing department within 21 days and complete the RLV form.

What a custom trailer costs
Custom trailers are quoted on your design, so there is no fixed price list. The price of the closest standard model is a realistic starting point, and these four things move the price most:
- Size of the bed and the steel used
- Number of axles and whether brakes are needed
- A closed body instead of open or mesh sides
- Extras such as ramps, tool boxes and racks
-
½ ton trailer R22,000
-
3/4 ton trailer from R24,070
-
Closed 3/4 ton trailer from R33,930
-
1.3 ton braked trailer from R39,840
-
2.3 ton double axle trailer from R59,690
-
2.3 ton flat deck trailer from R62,900
-
Car trailer from R62,960
-
2.3 ton cattle trailer R74,140

Custom trailer FAQs
Straight answers on build times, cost, licence codes and registration for custom made trailers. Checked September 2026.
What is a custom built trailer?
A custom built trailer is made to your own specification instead of a standard size. The length, width, side height, axles, brakes and fittings are chosen for what you carry and what you tow with. We build custom trailers for everything from garden equipment to livestock, delivered in about 3 weeks.
How long does it take to build a custom trailer?
Our custom trailers are built and delivered in about 3 weeks. We confirm the timing when you approve your quote, so you know when to expect your trailer before the build starts.
How much does a custom trailer cost in South Africa?
Custom trailers are quoted on your design. As a guide, our standard models cost from R17,820 for a quad trailer to R74,140 for a 2.3 ton braked cattle trailer. Size, the number of axles, brakes, a closed body and extras such as ramps or tool boxes have the biggest effect on price.
What information do you need to quote on a custom trailer?
Tell us what you will carry and its heaviest weight, the inside dimensions you need, your towing vehicle and its towing capacity, your licence code, any extras, and where you are based. A rough sketch or photo of a similar trailer helps us quote accurately.
Will my custom trailer be road legal?
Yes. We build to South African road requirements and fit brakes to any trailer with a GVM above 750 kg. You register a new trailer with its manufacturer's certificate, your ID and proof of address at your licensing department within 21 days of buying it.
Can I tow a custom trailer on a Code B licence?
Yes, if the trailer's GVM is 750 kg or less. GVM includes the trailer's own weight, so a lighter build leaves more of that 750 kg for your load. For a heavier trailer you need a Code EB licence.
What is the difference between GVM, tare and payload?
Tare is the trailer's own empty mass. Payload is the load it may carry. Gross vehicle mass (GVM) is the maximum the loaded trailer may weigh, so tare plus payload must never exceed the GVM shown on the trailer's plate.
Should I choose a single or double axle trailer?
A double axle spreads the load over four wheels, which makes longer and heavier trailers more stable on the road. A single axle trailer is lighter, cheaper and easier to move by hand. In our standard range, the 2.3 ton and 3 ton trailers run on two axles.
